I Didn’t Find Them Too Late!

I would have to admit that it is only in the recent months that I came to appreciate AMERICA’S SINGING SWEETHEARTS. [If you have no idea who they are or were, there’s always google to help you!] And well, it’s surprising, I know, to find me here writing an entry on some insights I’ve come to think of during those days that I watch their movies.

Before that, allow me to share my insights on each of them first!

For one thing, my appreciation for Jeanette MacDonald is somewhat similar to what my appreciation towards Eleanor Parker or Greer Garson is like. She looks flighty, sweet, and elegant at the same time. And her smile takes my breath away (okay, fangirling too much!). Who am I kidding? I’m crazy over guys and gals with good sets of teeth!

The picture on the left is my favorite Jeanette picture. I guess it’s a bit unusual than all her other pictures because there’s no teeth shown in her smile but her smile is still something worth looking at and appreciating!

As much as I’d love to have any memorabilia and books about her (preferably with Nelson, of course!), I simply can’t. But I’m very happy that there are so many sites dedicated to her. And Nelson, too! Anyway, going back to FANGIRLING over her, well, I think my favorite movie of hers is Maytime. It’s hard to explain, really, why it’s my favorite movie with her in it. I think the ending sort of got me. Sort of made me feel that in reality, she and Nelson already met halfway somewhere in Heaven and are finally happily together after that tumultuous relationship they had here on earth.

And who could ever forget how high the range of Jeanette’s voice is? Admittedly, it’s not as high as other operatic singers but it is high! It’s up there. And It’s not easy to reach a range like that. I guess my favorite Jeanette Aria/song is Ave Maria. It’s such a good rendition of it, too!

Now, for a bit of real FANGIRL moment. Nelson Eddy. The famous baritone of his time. This picture shown is one of my favorite Nelson Eddy pictures. He sort of reminds me a bit of Ralph Fiennes, also a favorite. He has a set of good teeth, too! 😀

I’m not a good person to describe how much I adore him, though. As I’ve said, I have limited facts or findings as to how GREAT and MAGNIFICENT he really is! (Jeanette is, too, of course!)

And his Capt. Warrington is HOT!!! He’s like John Rolfe from ‘Pocahontas II’ and is absolutely divine. I guess my favorite Nelson Eddy moment would have to be when he was singing ‘Carry Me Back to Old Virginny’ in a playful manner. Not operatic, of course!

What amazes me truly about Nelson and Jeanette’s relationship with one another is simply the way this relationship helps them be more concentrated or focused or probably comfortable working with each other onscreen. Anybody who’s at ease with another person would most certainly make their work easier, especially when they’re working together. And if it is true that they had fights or quarrels or anything of the sort, then these must have ended quickly. Honestly, their movies are wonderfully made. Their voices are heaven. You won’t ask for anything else from them! In short, they’re perfect. And in love, too, they are!

Well, anyway, as most people say, GONE ARE THE DAYS that people like Nelson or Jeanette lived. Most of my favorite actors and actresses are up there in Heaven! If it weren’t for TCM or Youtube, I never would have loved these classic era. I would never have known about Greer Garson, too! She’s a wonderful actress. Julie Andrews and Eleanor Parker are still alive today, and I am glad they still are. All I can say, I guess, is that I’m glad I didn’t find them too late!
